A Sciatic hernia the protrusion of the intraabdominal viscera through the greater or lesser sacrosciatic foramens. They are the rarest types of hernias encountered in a surgical practice.
This 66years old male patient was admitted to our hospital because of cramping abdominal pain and walking difficulty due to left groin pain, radiating along the left inner aspect of the thigh.
On exploratory laparotomy, small intestine was herniated through the greater sciatic foramen. The strangulated small intestine was resected and end-to-end anastomosis was done. The defect was packed with Marlex patch and it was sutured to
pyriformis
muscle and periosteum of the ilium.
We report a case of sciatic hernia, suprapyriformic type wit the review of the previous literatures.
